Mariel Scammell is a producer, writer and director based in Montréal, QC. Mariel has produced six acclaimed short genre films which have garnered attention at international festivals. Her most recent project, UNDRESS ME, a body-horror short directed by Amelia Moses, delighted genre fans at 30 + festivals, including the Fantasia International Festival, Etheria Film Night, MonsterFest, and Film Quest. The film went on tour with The Final Girls UK and The Final Girls Berlin before it's limited release on SHUDDER as part of the Nitehawk Shorts program.
Mariel is currently developping Real Live Death, a queer horror comedy web-series written by Kaye MacDonald, as well as her first feature, The Lot, a supernatural thriller set on the lot of a trashy true crime T.V. show. In 2017, The Lot was selected as one of five national genre concepts to take part in WIFTV’s From Our Dark Side incubator program, an accelerator program for women genre writers. Mariel presented the project at the 2017 Frontiers Co-Production Market Directed by Women Networking and Pitch Session.
As a producer, Mariel believes in empowering diverse voices and the unique potential of genre cinema as a vehicle for social change.
